Originally built as a private residence, Glen Clyde House was first licensed as a Coaching Inn by James Jackson in 1845 under the name " The Tasmanian Lass". In the early 1860's a major extension was added for coaches and the name changed to the Glen Clyde Hotel. |
It continued to operate as an hotel until the 1930's. Since then it has had a variety of uses, including a period as a maternity home, dental clinic and a long period as an Ampol Garage before falling into disrepair. Following an extensive renovation by the Lang Family (in the late 1970's), Glen Clyde House is once again a wayside stopping point, catering to the traveller and local alike. Today it is established as one of Tasmania's Premier Craft Galleries and proud winners of 8 Tasmanian Tourism Awards for excellence. |
The Gardens Our gardens are open daily for inspection. |

In November 98 major development started on the "back paddock". Large plantings, new beds, fountain and water ponds are all taking shape. 7 tonnes of gravel was laid, 15 metres of dry stone wall built & 10 trailer loads of bush rock gathered & laid for garden edging. |
