Located 74 km (or one hour) northwest of Hobart on the Lyell Highway, Hamilton is a typical Tasmanian Historic Town combining a setting which dates to the early nineteenth century with a complete range of gardens, historic accommodation, award winning craft gallery & local attractions. Like Oatlands and Ross it is relatively unspoiled and still sufficiently removed from over-commercialisation, thus offering the visitor an opportunity to experience what the villages of southern Tasmania were like in the 1830s and 1840s. Today there are a range of gardens in the township, many lining the footpaths with the scented perfume of roses. Each year as part of Blooming Tasmania we open the town for an Open Garden & Heritage tour weekend to showcase both commercial & private gardens.
